How long does it usually take you to plan a trip?

To me, it depends on the trip... How far? Costs? destination?
The more time you have to plan, the more money you can usually save by shopping around. Do you need plane tickets? You probably need to book at least a month in advance. Hotels in a popular place? You may need to book something like that at least 6 months in advance. For an example, I went on a cruise this past January. I booked it in March of the previous year... Made payments over the summer so that when it was time to get on the boat, it was paid for... I made hotel reservations and worked out all of the other details, about 3 months ahead of time so that when I got down there everything was covered. I tried to think of everything... How am I getting from the Airport to the hotel? how my getting from the Hotel to the port... etc. On the other hand, I've completely "winged" a vacation with little or no thought before getting in the car... Where do you want to go? |

Well its taken us a year to plan our wedding and all of the other things associated with it. Airfare, transportation to and from the airport...stuff like that
but most of the time during the summers we'll just either decide to hop in the car and drive to the Ocean for a weekend or somewhere out of town

suppose to go down to the beach as well. I don't travel far and when I do it's only to go visit my sister and my niece. I've never been to
Louisiana. It's going to take around 4-6 hours straight drive and I haven't been in the car for that long since back around 2000. So, I like to make
sure I am prepared with things like MP3 player, word search books, notebooks cuz I write poetry, mixed CD's, snacks and drinks, etc.

I love a good road trip! I hope you have fun!
For that kind of trip, I just try to make a list and not forget anything... Maybe a week in advance incase I need to buy anything. I do overnights to visit family quite a bit... at least once a month... I actually have an overnight bag that's never quite unpacked... I can just grab it and go at a moments notice. |

Another thing I do for longer trips is dig out my suitcase about a week or so early and leave it open on the floor... That way whenever I think of anything I
don't want to forget, I can just throw it in and then when It's time to pack you've got most of the stuff right there...

pack.lol! I can't help it! I'm always afraid I'll need something that I won't have with me so I make sure I have EVERYTHING! lol!

I hear ya!
I definitely overpacked for the cruise I went on in January... Next year (Yes, we're planning on going again!) I plan to pack fewer clothes
and more booze...
